Greg has deeply studied the human and natural history of the St. Croix River and knows numerous stories and special places along the river and throughout the surrounding region. Greg grew up in Stillwater and today lives in May Township with his wife, Kate, two children, dog, and guinea pig.

Liz Ruhberg - Ecology and Special Trips

Liz Ruhberg has over 30 years of experience paddling on the St. Croix River.  At dawn, twilight, mid-day or in the dark of night, Liz looks and listens for local wildlife. Her career in science education adds biological, environmental and meteorologic trivia and insight on a paddling adventure.  Liz’s knowledge of the St. Croix river allows her to provide you with a gentle meander along the main channel or venture into back channels, nearby sloughs or flooded woodlands for an uncommon boating experience.  Kayaking under a full moon or on a moonless night, while watching for northern lights, provides an exceptional opportunity to experience the St. Croix River.  Liz has served as “river guide” to many visitors on the St. Croix and looks forward to offering you a memorable experience on the water.

David Aichinger - Special Trips

Adventures. His love for the outdoors was sparked by hiking trips to Minnesota's north shore, the Colorado mountains, and numerous national parks with his family. As an adult, he has visited the BWCAW dozens of times and paddled thousands of miles of rivers, at one point reaching the Arctic Ocean. He has also visited dozens of national parks and hiked the Superior Hiking Trail. Since his son Joe joined Scouts in 2018, David has led the troop on many high adventures, including a 9-day hike in the wilderness, week-long boundary waters and river trips, and a week-long scuba trip cleaning coral reefs in the Caribbean.

Brian Vander Maazen - Fishing Tours

Brian has devoted his life to exploring the water and wild places of the Midwest, with the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway holding a special significance for him. As a seasoned fishing guide, he has extensive knowledge of the St. Croix River's unique ecosystem and structure, providing clients with a productive day on the water and a deeper connection to this remarkable river system. Brian has built a reputation for precisely and passionately targeting trophy musky and smallmouth bass. Whether stalking aggressive smallmouth in fast water or pursuing elusive musky on the fly, Brian combines skill, patience, and a profound respect for the sport on every trip. For Brian, fishing is not just about the catch; it's about sharing experiences, creating memories, and helping others appreciate the adventure and challenges of the outdoors.
